The big meeting

Today we had a meeting with the staff caring for Jeremy. Here's a summary of the meeting:

Occupational Therapy - They are focusing on joint therapy and response to command. Today he moved his left leg 5 times in response to command. WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!! (I added that) They want to see more "fixed gaze" and "eye tracking". They were very encouraging.

Nursing - The nurse is convinced that he continues to react to Deb's voice. He's "eating well" and she said he certainly has "all the chances in the world." She also said he has beautiful skin. I'll be telling him that and laughing with him for the rest of his life.....

Respiratory therapy - He has been off the ventilator since Monday and hasn't had any sedative medication in the last 24 hours. He's on 24% oxygen (room air is 21%) and they continue to successfully reduce the percentage. The trach tube will stay until he can protect his airway himself.

Overall, the big concern is "over stimulation". The staff is still very protective of him and continually ensures that he has an opportunity to rest and heal. They're still asking visitors to hold off which will.... oddly.... speed his recovery.

The "next step" in his recovery is self recognition. They will begin to look for signs that he is aware of place and time.

Keep praying!!! God has a plan. When we're ready He will show us that plan...

  2. Jeremy and family:
I miss being able to send you e-cards.
It will be 4th of July soon and you can hopefully see real fireworks from your window.

I hope to visit soon, but the mean nurse is saying "not yet". :)

  6. Jeremy,
I know that you feel our healing prayers and God's love for you. USACE will not be the same until you come back to us with your contagious smile.

Debi, remember when you are feeling overwhelmed,
"It was then that I carried you"
