December 9

Thank you for your comments to Jeremy. We tried to get on the Internet at the hospital today and it didn't work. Technical difficulty! I think Jeremy will be so happy to hear from all of you. We are working on getting Jeremy going on the computer again. Today we didn't have Internet but he did type (hunt and peck with one finger) a simple note to his brothers. We saved it to send later. This was only the second time we tried putting the computer in front of him and he did pretty good with a little assistance.

I was able to observe Jeremy in therapy again today. It is always so fun to watch. They always run him through the mill!!! Today they were working on teaching him to roll when I arrived. Then they helped him over on his stomach. Then they got him on his knees (praying position) on the side of the mat. I think the therapist was working just as hard as Jeremy was. His inclination was to stick out his bottom and she was trying to keep him up. Then they let him lower his bottom to his feet (Ouch, Ouch, Ouch) He said that hurt his knees. Too much stretch I guess! Then they pulled up a stair hand rail in front of him and, with one person on all 4 side they told him to pull with his arm and stand (with lots of help). All this is as much a work out for training his brain as his body! In speech therapy she was working more on writing.

In speech therapy she was working on writing again. She had a sheet that has a part of a phrase and he has to choose one of 2 words to finish the phrase and write it. He did great on the first 2 then I think he choose the shortest word for the 3rd one. WRONG. She had him read it out loud and he got it right. With some of the words she had to help him write them.

They say "timing is everything" Evidently with brain injuries that is especially true. Jeremy is putting more of those pieces together every day. Here is a simple illustration of what I mean. We worked today for awhile at just blowing a party whistle. You have to put your lips together - tight, and blow - hard. Jeremy kept laughing mostly because he couldn't make it work. He thought he was doing it right but it didn't work. We were teasing some of the hospital staff that this is something Jeremy could work on at 2 a.m. if he was awake and wanted to get some assistance.

Thank you for your Christmas greetings to Jeremy. Hopefully tomorrow we will be able to get on the Internet at the hospital and he will be able to read them.

Thank you for your prayer!!!!!

  2. Hey Jer, this is Kat Lyons. I work at the bank with Whit. I was so sorry to hear about your accident, but it looks like you're really improving! Remember the time we got together to make all the cakes 2yrs ago for our "Winter Party" at the bank? I had a blast with you guys and was so impressed with your kind and joyful spirit.

All the best to you and your family this Christmas. Praying for healing and strength of heart and body. God has a plan for each of us and I believe he'll see it through in you.

    Best,
    Kat
